The first Nordic country to choose their YNJC representative was Denmark. The trio Musik før Hemlösa won the national Ung Jazz (Young Jazz) band contest, and therefor the improvisational Danish-Swedish group found their way to YNJC Helsinki.
The band members Signe, Amadeus and Björn met in the fall of 2012 when they started their studies at Skurups Folkhögskola. Their shared interest for the improvisational and experimental aspects of jazz quickly brought them together and shortly afterwards they founded Musik før Hemlösa.
Their music consists of cheerful and forceful melodies with an explosive expression. The Danish-Swedish group captivates the listener with great energy – musically as well as physically - and no one is left unaffected! Every member of the trio has a strong personal expression and their voices melt together upon contact and turn into a living organism. Their compositions are simple, straightforward and bare, creating a foundation for free improvisation. Their strongest sources of inspiration are Albert Ayler and Jesper Zeuthen.
